1st Remain Unbeaten at Christmas Break

With only 8 players available including Brandon McGill in his first game back after injury, UEL started slow.  In the first quarter no points were scored in the first three minutes into the game, until Henry Utku delivered a free throw after driving hard to the basket.  Both teams started the game with sloppy play, UEL committed five turnovers in the first five minutes of the game.  A couple 3-point baskets from Dougie Bennett and Will Ashby opened up a lead of 14-5 in favor of UEL.  A nice defensive play from Jamie Hayes followed by a turn around jump shot on the other end capped an impressive 9-0 run from UEL. Richard subbed in towards the end of the quarter and created an immediate impact in the post scoring on his only two touches of the quarter.

UEL used its strong finish in the first quarter to open a 19 point lead with great pressure on the ball from George to create multiple fastbreak points.  McGill entered the game midway through the second period and got a few layups and stole the ball twice from Imperial guards.  Imperial struggled with their offense as the pressure forced them away from their first and second options.  Imperial's center had a big block in the last two minutes that excited the bench and they went on to score the final 8 points of the half, leaving UEL leading 46-29 at halftime.

Imperial started the third period struggling with UEL's full court press, which created a fast pace game that Imperial could not keep up with.  George and Utku connected on a nice give and go pass that resulted in an easy layup for Utku which put the game out of reach midway through the 3rd period.  Bennett converted on a nice three point play getting fouled on a fadeaway shot.  UEL led 65-43 after 3 quarters.

Fourth quarter didn't have much structure to it as both teams were in a man to man and traded baskets to start the period.  Play got a bit chippy when a defender from Imperial sent McGill to the ground in the backcourt, resulting in the warning of that players actions to the coach.  Minutes later McGill threw down a dunk which delighted the fans and the UEL bench.  UEL cruised to a 86-59 victory over Imperial heading into the holiday break undefeated!

Dougie Bennett was the top scorer of the game with 19.
