The Ballersss and Bubblebxtt closed out the regular season of the 2013 Kanoa Resort Women’s Basketball Summer League with separate wins last Friday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.

The Ballersss downed Hashtag, 58-48, to finish the two-round robin competition with a 5-1 record, the same mark Bubblebxtt earned, following a 56-45 triumph over Yoloswag Attack. However, the Ballersss won the tiebreak and was seeded first in the double-elimination playoffs, as it defeated Bubblebxtt in the second round by 9 points, 74-64. Bubblebxtt prevailed over the Ballersss in the first round, 63-58.

There was also a tie between Yoloswag Attack and Hashtag with their similar 1-5 slates, but the former took the No. 3 spot with its higher winning margin against the latter. Yoloswag Attack beat Hashtag in the first round, 63-49, before the latter bounced back with a 61-51 win in the second round.

The double-elimination playoff round started yesterday with the Ballersss scheduled to face Hashtag and Bubblebxtt slated to duel Yoloswag Attack. Winners of the two matches will collide for the first finals berth tomorrow.

The Ballersss secured the No. 1 spot in the four-team field after dominating Hashtag right into the opening half of the penultimate match in the regular season. The Ballersss doubled up Hashtag in the first 20 minutes of play, 27-13, with Chevy Kate Alipio leading the former’s offense with her 10 points. Four other Ballersss players added at least two baskets apiece to put the team on top.

Hashtag never recovered from thereon, as it had only Rachel Abrams and Vanessa Bartolo consistently making baskets in the second half, while the Ballersss had an even offense to take the 19-point win.

Alipio finished with 16 points, while Karlene Reyes and Jan Travilla had 12 and 10, respectively, the Ballersss, which drew 15 points from Ira Palero and Alyanna Garon.

In the second game, Bubblebxtt got double figures from three players to thwart Yoloswag Attack. Friendly Joy Pena notched 15 points, Madeleine Alegre added 12, and Mikki Kautz contributed 11.

Jaime Mendoza paced Yoloswag Attack with her 14 points.
