DYS U15 SRYBL

DYS nips KFC for solo lead in U15

Djay March Ong saved the day for DYS, making a buzzer-beating layup to lift his team to a 3-0 record and the solo lead in the six-team field. KFC slid to second place with its 2-1 mark.

Ong’s game-winning basket came after Kobee Mendoza missed a jumper near the foul line. Ong was at the right place at the right time, as he picked up the leather after Mendoza’s airball shot, and quickly went up for the shot. Besides hitting the crucial basket Ong also top-scored for DYS, firing 18 markers.

The DYS frontliner put his team on the board after a scoreless first quarter and went on to notch three more field goals to slice KFC’s lead to 1 at the break, 18-19. Ong continued to lead DYS’ offense in the third period to grab the lead from KFC, 29-25, and completed his heroics last weekend with the buzzer-beating basket.

Ol’Aces 33, Rebelholics 32

The second game in the U15 division also had a down-to-the-wire finish with the Ol’Aces slipping past the Rebelholics in overtime.

The Ol’Aces canned four free throws in the extension period to edge the Rebelholics and improve to a 2-1 record. Rebelholics fell to a 1-2 card for a share of fourth to fifth place with the Rollers.

Erwin Olopai and K.J. Nabors connected on two charities apiece in overtime, while Rudy Lazaro made the two field goals for the Ol’Aces, who are bannered by Tinian players. Olopai also drilled the basket that sent the game into extra five minutes.

Nabors paced the Ol’Aces with his 12 points, while Olopai and Lazaro combined for 15. Kyle Rios led the Rebelholics with his 9 markers.
