8 open, 6 masters teams in UFO caging

All is set for the 2013 United Filipino Organization Basketball League as a total of 14 teams will see action in the annual cage-fest set to start on Sept. 29 at the TSL Sports Complex’s Gillette Multi-Purpose Gymnasium in Gual Rai.

Coordinator Abner Venus, of the Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, said the eight teams that will suit up in the open division are Mobil, Proa, Toka Degree, Ladder Beach Docomo, Kanoa Resort, KB Market, Hi-Five, and Hoopaholics.

Signing up for the 40-and-over masters, meanwhile, are defending champion Armatech, Masters Degree, Blue Haus, Pacific Islands Club, Brabu Pharmacy Laguna, and Mafea Shakir Realty.

The 2013 edition of the UFO caging will not have games in the 20-and-under and 15-and-under divisions after no one showed interest in entering the competition.

Venus also reminded the 14 teams playing this season to submit pertinent documents before the Sept. 25 deadline. The documents include team roster, players’ registration, BANMI and UFO waiver forms, and signed players/coaches code of conduct.

“There will be no documents, no play rule this season. So I’m requesting all players and teams to submit the documents on or before Wednesday,” he said.

Before the actual games start, the opening ceremony will promptly begin at 1pm on that day. Playing dates for the league will be Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, if necessary. First game is at 6:30pm and second game is at 8pm.
