BLUEHAUS STRETCHES STREAK

FRANCIS REBUYON, SEEN HERE PULLING UP FOR A JUMPER AGAINST DEGREE’S JORGE DE GUZMAN, TEAMED UP WITH EDGAR PANGELINAN IN LIFTING BLUE HAUS TO A COME-FROM-BEHIND 81-72 WIN OVER LAGUNA IN THE UFO MASTERS CAGING LAST SATURDAY AT THE GILLETTE MULTIPURPOSE GYMNASIUM. (ROSELYN B. MONROYO) Blue Haus avoided Laguna/Erika’s Catering’s upset axe after recording a come-from-behind 81-72 win at the start of the second round of the 2013 UFO-Budweiser Masters Division Basketball League last Saturday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium of the TSL Sports Complex.

After falling behind by as much as 8 points in the first half, 32-40, and still facing a 50-54 deficit at the end of the third, Blue Haus went all out in the fourth canto to steal the win from Laguna. Blue Haus sizzled for 31 points in the pivotal fourth to extend its winning run to sixth and snapped Laguna’s four-game streak.

Edgar Pangelinan sparked Blue Haus’ rally, while Francis Rebuyon put the finishing touches in the 9-point win. Pangelinan drilled 9 of Blue Haus’ first 11 points, while Rebuyon nailed 11 of his team’s final 13 markers.

Pangelinan and Rebuyon’s successive baskets offset the 3-point shooting of Rodney Catalla, who fired three triples in the fourth, trying to keep Laguna in the game. Laguna had another triple late in the game, courtesy of Jun Alipio, who was held to just one field goal in that canto. Another missing link for Laguna in the final period was Jun Tabora, who had already scored 21 points by the end of third frame and added only 2 in the payoff canto. Only Catalla connected on more than one field goal for Laguna in the crucial fourth period.

In the second game, Pacific Islands Club also used a fourth-quarter assault to break into the win column after losing all its five games in the first round.

Behind by 5 points, 58-63, entering the final canto, PIC grabbed the upper hand behind the triples of Raymond Tolentino, who knocked in two treys early in the quarter and scored 8 of the team’s first 11 points. PIC also got a lift from John Ricafort in the fourth frame, as he nailed two triples and 8 points past the halfway mark of the final canto.

PIC doubled up Shakir Realty in the fourth period, scoring 30 points. Shakir Realty, which defeated PIC in the first round, absorbed its fourth straight loss as fatigue took its toll on the depleted team. Shakir played with only five players.
