BLUEHAUS SWEEPS REGULAR SEASON

Blue Haus finished the regular season of the 2013 UFO-Budweiser Masters Division Basketball League with a flawless record, following a 116-92 out of D&Q Degree last Saturday night at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.

Blue Haus hammered Degree with a barrage of treys early in the game to set up the double-digit win and complete the 10-game sweep in the double-round robin contest. Degree wrapped up the regular season with a 3-7 record, losing its last seven matches. The top-ranked Blue Haus and Degree will meet anew tomorrow in the semifinals.

The unbeaten Blue Haus unloaded five triples in the first quarter and Degree could not retaliate, allowing the former to take a 27-18 lead. Tony Diaz and Edgar Pangelinan fired two treys apiece, while Roger Valencia made one. Despite failing to convert a single shot from downtown in the first canto, Degree still faced a single digit deficit, as Ferdie de la Torre kept the team afloat with his 10 points.

De la Torre was then held to one field goal in the second period, while Diaz and Pangelinan continued to make long shots, stretching Blue Haus’ advantage to 12 at halftime, 56-44.

Blue Haus then broke away in the third as Pangelinan was still unstoppable, firing three more treys and Diaz and Valencia making one each to counter the four triples Mark Rabago converted. With only Rabago consistently hitting his outside shots against three Blue Haus’ shooters, the top-ranked squad built a 92-65 lead.

With the win already secured after the three periods, Blue Haus played loose on defense, allowing Degree to outscore the former for the first time, 26-24. Rabago kept his hot shooting in the second half, earning five more triples. He finished with a team-high 31 points, three markers shy of Pangelinan’s game-high 34 points. Diaz chipped in 21, and three other Blue Haus players contributed twin digits. Valencia had 14, while Francis Rebuyon and Bryan Manabat added 12 and 11, respectively.

Blue Haus 116 – Pangelinan 34, Diaz 21, Valencia 14, Rebuyon 12, Manabat 11, F. Palacios 6, Guiab 6, G. Palacios 4.
D&Q Degree 92 – Rabago 31, de la Torre 22, Drilon 10, Ocampo 9, Valdez 9, Tobias 5, Echavez 4.
