2007 BANMI Budweiser Cup Kicks off

The 2007 BANMI Budweiser Cup Mens Islandwide Basketball League kicked off it's regular season last night at the Gilbert C. Ada Basketball Court. A total of 13-Teams entered this League. The teams are as follows : Team Proa sponsored by Telesource, Suns sponsored by Saipan Stevedore, 25 and Under Chmapions Ulloa sponsored by D-1, Junior Nationals sponsored by Ed Manalili, Sonics sponsored by Jesse Tudela, Rock Steady sponsored by James Lee, Bombers sponsored by Bruce Berline and Jeff Warfield, Laly 4 sponsored by Sam Kapileo, Hotel Champions sponsored by FMI / PTI, Runnin Rebels sponsored by Elias Rangamar, G-Rollers 1 sponsored by NYBA, Ol'Aces sponsored by Ramir Trinidad, and G-Rollers 2 sponsored by NYBA.

The Opening Ceremonies kicked off at 6:30pm with the introduction of the team players and coaches. The MHS JROTC color guards presented the raising of the American and CNMI Flag while Inatuas Cultural Dance Group Juanit Villagomez sang the American and CNMI National Anthem. Pastor Ramir Trinidad from Marianas Baptist Academy gave the Invocation. Jojo Camacho Advertising Manager for MARPAC Budweiser gave the Welcoming and Opening remarks. This years Budweiser Cup is dedicating this league to one of the organizers of Budweiser Basketball League in Saipan to Narciso "Jun" Fidelino who passed away last year and the plaque was received by Jun's daughter Christine together with her husband and kids. The crowd and the participants was later on entertained by the Inatuas Cultural Dance Group with a variety of Cultural dance. BANMI's Secretary & Board member Micheal White delievered the closing remarks and this was followed with the raffle draw to determine if who will be playing for the scheduled two games. A ceremonial jumpball tossed was intiated by 2007 Budweiser Cup Commissioner Abner Venus and the first game started between Suns and Team Proa.

Suns defeated Team Proa 100 - 78 while for the second game Junior Nationals defeated Ulloa 87-82 in a close encounter match. For more details please see Saipantribune (saipantribune.com) or Marianas Variety(m.variety.com) CNMI local newspaper.
