Saipan Gearing Up for Different Basketball Leagues

The Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands will be having different Leagues starting August 2008. In preparation for the upcoming Oceania Basketball Youth Championship in Guam BANMI President Elias Rangamar announced that the following leagues will kick off. On August 11, 2008 the Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League will kick off. According to Mr.Rangamar this years format for the Rotary League will see action in the 15-18 yrs. old Division and this will be played Monday's to Friday's. The new Division which is the 9-14 yrs old will be played on the weekends which is on Saturday's. Rangamar decided to start the 9-14yrs old age group so that the younger kids will have more chance of playing, since some of the teams are using 17-18yrs old players the younger players playing time are limited.

The 25 & Under Basketball League is also scheduled to see action in the last week of August or early part of September 2008. All interested Teams who would like to participate please submitt the necessary documents needed. Also the Masters Basketball League will kick off their season this August 2008. The Budweiser Cup will also kick off their season this coming October 2008. The league will be renamed as Budweiser Basketball League instead of the the Budweiser Cup.

We are gearing up all these leagues so that we could use this as part of our training for our Jr. National Team for the Boys and we are going to start a Girls or Womens Basketball League for our Jr. National Team for Womens as per BANMI Board Member Abner Venus.
