WESLEY GIRLS SPRITE BALL 2008 GIRLS CHAMPIONS

The Day was full of anxiety as all four regional champions where spread across  four different groups to play qualifications for the Grand Sprite Ball Championship 2008 grand final. At the end of the qualifcations and knock-out bracket stage two regional champions made it through to the Grand final and it was the Greater Accra Champions Sacred Heart Senior High School who met the Wesley Girls High School in the grand final of the Sprite Ball Girls competition.

Wesley Girls High School also known as WEGEHEY and Sacred Heart Senior High School showed why they emerged champions in the Cape Coast and Greater Accra champions Sacred Heat Senior High School Sprite Ball Regional Qualification when they met each other in the close game final encounter. All two teams had a 6-0 W/L record into the Sprite Ball 2008 final game after playing a series of group games and two knock out games and only one team was going to emerge with a no loss record through out the competition. The tournament went late into the night and the final game was to be played under flood lights.  Both teams had two of the tournaments youngest prospects who controlled the game for their teams through out their games to the finals. Wesley Girls had Gifty Nyarko their main Guard who was sensational through out their qualification to the grand final game. She Averaged 6points,3steal and 4 assists in almost all their games to the finals. She had handles that could not be differentiated from a male handler.  Ruby Adamah was the Star player for Sacred Heart, with great speed that could be compared with great NCAA women point guards she always dominated the fast break plays through out their lead to the final game. The game tipped off with an anxious crowd that couldnt easily determine who the winner was going to be at the end of the night. Sacred Heart quickly led the evening with a quick fast break basket by Ruby Adamah in the first minute of the game. Wesley Girls quickly tied up the game with Gifty Nyako blocking a shot and followed up with a lay up that tied the game at 2-2. The night was between Gifty Nyako and Ruby Adamah as both players kept on making attempts at each others basket . After tieing the game Wesley Girls went on to lead the game after an assist from Gifty Nyako led to a 2pointer shot. Wesley Girls looked to be in the controlling seat with their favourite guard Gifty Nyako stealing and blocking almost every Sacred Heart offensive play and attempts to their basket. The first half ended with Wesley Girls leading Sacred Heart 6-2. The second half started with Sacred Heart looking to come back after they were awarded 2 free throws from a foul to the basket. They made one out of the two attempts and this changed the score to 6-3. Even with a close gap Wesley Girls looked comfortable on offense consistently putting pressure on the Sacred Heart defense. The score was stretched to 9-3 after a set play from Wesley Girls led to a 3pointer basket with an assist by Gifty Nyako. Sacred heart  kept up a fighting spirit till the final whistle. The game ended with Wesley Girls winning 9-3. Wesley Girls where awarded with the winning trophy that crowned their title as 2008 Sprite Ball Girls champions.
