SAMOA PREPARES FOR OPC

The teams heading to OPC have a core of 6 players in each team who have either been to last years tournaments either  OPC in Suva or to Oceania Cup in Invercargill. The Women's team have a new Coach - Pauline ( Polly) Godinet-Tuilagi who has played club hockey in England. She has only been working with the team for 5 weeks but the improvement and enthusiasm is signifcant. Seutatia Laupepa, who has ben a national player at the previous 2 SPG Games and also at Oceania Cup and OPC 2009 has taken on the role as Manager and her experience will be a valauable asset.

The average age of both teams is 23 years old. The youngest male player is 15 and the youngest female player is 13.

The CDO Gill Gemming will continue to work with the teams and coaches over the next 4 days. All the teams are have a rules evening after training tonight so that they become familiar with the rules and can ask questions. As there was video footage showed of the hockey at the Commonwealth games in Samoa the players have seen more international hockey over the past 2 months than they have the chance ever before.
