Marist b'ball top seed

MARIST Brothers High School U19 side remains the number one seed heading into round two of the Suva Secondary School Basketball competition today. The Flagstaff boys will face a strong challenge from Suva Grammar School at MBHS court this afternoon. Laced with players that play club level in the Raiwaqa Basketball League, MBHS look more experienced. Tournament coordinator Nicholas Wong said MBHS would be hard to beat in this competition. "They are the number one seed in the tournament and there is no doubt about that. I have seen the performance of their national reps and I strongly believe they are one of the strong contenders for the title," he said. MBHS last won the championship two year ago. Still wounded from the loss last year, MBHS would have to make amends today. Wong said Suva Grammar would be no easy side to tussle with. "Grammar is always the team to beat. They have unknown players in their team but that will not rule them out from giving Marist a good run tomorrow (today)." MBHS will be fired with the inclusion of Isi Vuetibau, Mataika Koyamainavure, George Faga and John Kunau who are all members of the national U20 squad preparing for the Oceania Championship. In another exciting boy's game, Latter Day Saints battles Gospel High School. Defending girl's champion LDS takes on the wounded GHS. GHS suffered a surprise defeat to Adi Cakobau School last week.
