Fleur impressed

International Basketball Association (FIBA) Oceania Zone Development manager Annie La Fleur is impressed with Fiji Basketball development programmes. Fleur says Fiji Basketball has the right management to run the sport in the country.
“I’m very impressed with the management in Fiji Basketball who are doing a pretty good job,” Fleur said. “I must thank development officer Laisiasa Puamau who is a very hardworking man and is trying to take the sport to the level we expect. “Even though this sport is minor compared to rugby and netball, we are all hoping for that day to come when the sport achieve becomes popular,” Fleur said.
The former Australian basketball player says Fiji is heading towards a positive direction.
“Fiji is moving towards the right direction and I’m sure if things remain this way and get better, Fiji will be ready to battle with other top teams in the world,” she added.
Fleur arrived into the country on Thursday and without wasting any more time, she started her assessment with the secondary school’s basketball competition.
“The children are performing to par and have shown good competition. They will be having an annual tournament in August which was a brilliant idea.”
Fleur was a member of the Australian  team at the 2000 Olympic Games who won silver and have also participated in the Women’s World Championships in 1994 and 1998 in Germany.
She also participated for the Sydney Flames team in the Australian basketball league from 1994-2001.
She departs for Kiribati next Wednesday.
