National Basketball Development Officer Contract Ends

As the contract term  for the Fiji National Basketball Development Officer comes to an end shortly, Basketball Federation of Fiji has advertised the post in keeping with formalities. 

Current NBDO, Fanny Simpson will take a well deserved break from the 15th February as the process of review of the position, and all potential candidates will take place. 

Meanwhile the affairs of basketball in Fiji will continue at the BF office under the supervison of AYAD Mark Seccombe until the post is filled once again.

Applications are invited from Fiji Nationals for the position of National Basketball Development Officer with the Basketball Federation of Fiji or Basketball Fiji.  This is a 3-Years contract,  and the successful applicant will be based at the Basketball Fiji office in Suva and be responsible for the following key areas of competiton, administration, development and liaison.

COMPETITION

Help BF increase the number of persons playing basketball in Centres where the sport is being played.

-  Support all existing competition structures and help increase the number and frequency of new competitions in Fiji. 

-  Facilitate the introduction/ and or continuity of basketball to primary and secondary school students through school-based coaching and development programs and competitions.

ADMINISTRATION

-  Assist in the compilation and the implementation of the Annual BF Basketball calendar encompassing all levels of the game in Fiji.

-  Assist BF with its planning and preparations, especially in regards to participation in Regional and International (competitions) events.

- Assist in the servicing of sponsorship for the various programs of BF.

- Coordinate regular editorial contributions to the FIBA Oceania Bulletin.

- Compilation of the Annual Report for BF.

DEVELOPMENT

Work with Primary and Secondary schools to introduce and increase knowledge of the sport.

-  Assist BF to provide basic knowledge and conduct accreditation courses for coaching, refereeing, core bench and administration.

- Assist with the establishment of development programs for young basketballers.

LIAISON

- Liaise regularly with umbrella sporting organisations such as FASANOC, ONOC, the Minstry of Youth and Sports and other arms of the  current  government and local organisations to ensure the sport of basketball has access to, and makes good use of all support progams, especially funding provided by those agencies.

- Liaise with the local media (newspaper, TV, radio) to effectively promote basketball in Fiji.

- Promote the activities of FIBA Oceania especially its competition program and take the necessary steps to ensure participation by teams in Fiji.

QUALIFICATIONS

An Undergraduate degree in a Management related field, or a minimum qualification of a diploma with experience working in the area of sports,  OR

- At least 4 - 5 years experience in sports administration.  This should include practical experiences as well. Specific experience working with the sport of basketball will be an advantage.
