ISl Girls Varsity action

The ISL basketball program commenced on October 19th and concluded on December 1st. 3 divisions namely; Boys Varsity, Girls Varsity and Junior Boys Varsity particpated in the program. The boys division opened the season with 5 teams from 4 different high schools in Palau. Midzenty High School had 2 teams and the rest only had one. Palau High School Green Machines successfully defended their title from last year as they went against Emmaus High school in the championship game. MHS Cardinals won 3rd place honors as they beat the Crusaders of SDA school.

The girls division fallowed with also 5 teams from the 4 high schools in Koror. This time Palau High School had 2 teams and the rest had one. The Lady Cardinals of Midzenty High school won the championship game over defending champions Palau High School Green Machines by a last second desperation shot. 3rd Place honors went to the Black Widows of PHS when they beat the Lady Crusaders of SDA school.

The last leg of the program was the boys junior division. Only 4 teams from 3 high schools participated in the program. Palau High School which has the highest enrollment of students in Palau had some internal school problems and could not participate in the program. Midzenty high school had 2 teams and the rest had one. The Knights of Emmaus High school who were the underdogs going into the championship game won their first championship when they beat the first ranked MHS Cardinals. MHS team B won 3rd place honors over the Crusaders of SDA. 

Despite the lower number of teams participating this season, the program was a big success as players were developing much better skills in the game and the coaches are becoming more knowledgeble in terms of managing the game. The schools benefited the most when the new FIBA Oceania Zone Development Officer Mr. Eddie Calic came to Palau on November 8th to the 28th and did school clinics for coaches and players.
