6th Belau Games concludes with a bang

This 6th Belau Games was the year of the underdogs as both the men and women finals team from Peleliu State did the unthinkable by coming from behind to win it all. In the women's finals, the favorites team to win it all was Ngaraard State in the winning bracket led by it's team captain Jubilee Kuartei and former national players Joan Mikel, Angel Sokau and Carrisa Subris. Peleliu State led by their team captain Sesengel Katebengang and some former national players Heather Ketebengang and Sweety .K. Peleliu State tied the game in the final seconds of the 4th quarter to force overtime and won it all by a score of 53=52 in the extra period when Carrisa missed the last attempt with one second on the clock to give team Peleliu the gold medal in the womens finals. Congratulations to team Peleliu and Team Ngaraard for an exciting and memorable womens finals.

In the mens finals Team Peleliu as the underdogs again came from behind to win the game in the 4th quarter by beating the much favored team from Melkeok State by a score of 73-72. Calson Dulei stole the ball and made the final shot to give Peleliu State the gold medal and their repeat of last years gold medal team. Again congratulations for both teams as they gave the sport big recognitiion in the closing of the games. Both winning coaches of Peleliu were Myers Techitong (6th Microgames womens coach) and Sinton Soalablai (6th Microgames mens coach).

The Palau Basketball Federation wishes to takes this opportunity and thank both tournament directors of basketball.
