Fiba Oceania ZDO Eddie Calic 2007 visit

ZDO school visit to Emmaus High School
ZDO's Team Palau Junior National team preparation

ZDO Eddie Calic arrived in Palau on November 2nd and departed on November 11th. He was accomodated at the Guest Lodge Motel, a walking distance from the PNOC office. PBF organized a visit plan for Mr. Calic. He worked with Jahmila Kuartei of Emmaus High School in training their boys junior varsity team for the upcoming ISL boys Junior varsity competition, training times were in the early morning hours from 5 am to 7 am and during late afternoons from 2 pm to 3 pm. He also worked with Burton Wong and Logan Ngiriou from 4 pm to 6 pm in preparing the U19 national team for a youth basketball tournament in Guam from November 18-25 called Micronesia Youth Basketball Tournament. He also evaluated the Palau Basketball Federation junior referees during the ISL Girls varsity games in the afternoon and the level 1 and 2 referees during the Government/Business League at night. The highlight of the trip is when Eddie and Topps were special guests to the Mike and Myers show in the Oceanian TV Network program. It was a great publicity opportunity to promote Palau Basketball Federation, Palau National Olympic Committee and Fiba Oceania's programs locally and in the oceania region. We Also discussed Team Palau prepation and the players and coaches code of conduct. We used the opportunity to inform and address to the viewers and the public, the importance of using sports as a tool to help change the lives of the athletes, coaches and everyone involved. Excellent Character points like, decipline, hardwork, commitment, motivation, Love, respect, dignity, loyalty, understanding, forgiveness and most importantly FAITH were also discussed. Gifts were presented to the show hosts and publishers to thank them for the opportunity to help our cause. In closing the Palau Basketball Federation takes this opportunity and thank Fiba Oceania for selecting Mr. Eddie Calic to replace our brother Mr. Stuart Manwarring. His first visit in 2006 was an introduction phase, but this year he has proven to be a very consistent, reliable, informative, productive, hardworking and loving ZDO for the job and I along with the PBF and the people of Palau welcome him with open and loving arms as a true bother to everyone in the Palau Basketball Family. He is truly an Excellent example of a good person I have met and have the honor to share the same feelings and passion for the game and life in general. I am forever thankfull and gratefull for the honor to call him my own brother. God Bless everyone and Happy Belated Thanksgiving....Topps!!!

Points of emphasis learned from the visit: It's wrong to say "practice makes perfect". The right word is "PERFECT PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT".
