The Fiji Team beat the Pepes in comprehensive fashion with a scoreline of 72-34 in the final game on Day 3 of the competition and complete a clean sweep of 3 wins from as many games. In the earlier game the Cooks Islands upset the higher ranked Samoans with a 44-35 win to secure 2nd place in the 2011 series. Samoa finished 3rd with the 1 win over the Pepes, whilst PNG finished winless in the tournament.
It was clear that Samoa and particularly PNG were most affected by the number of changes to their respective lineups from 2010. Both Samoa and PNG had as many 5 changes each from their starting 2010 lineups from last year's series. The Pepes close results from 2010 could not be repeated at this year's tournament. In fact all of the margins at this year's tournament were considerably more than the 2010 series.
Fiji and Samoa now move on to the World Championships commencing 3 July in Singapore.
Revised world rankings are expected from early July after the annual update process.
