Formation and affiliates
Touch was played in an organized competition only in Port Moresby in the year 1984 to 1988.
Other centers started playing touch around 1989 starting with Rabaul, Lae and Kainantu.
PNG Touch Federation was born in 1989 with pioneer associations Lae, Rabaul and Port Moresby, being the foundation members.
Other associations to affiliate the following year included Kainantu, Goroka, Kimbe, Madang and Porgera Mine in 1990.
Total number of affiliates to TFPNG up to 2007 was 15 which included Corporate Touch Port Moresby, Central Touch, Lae, Lae Corporate, Madang, Manus, Popondetta, Popondetta Country, Kokopo, PJV Mine, Sabama, Kainantu Mine, Nokondi, Kimbe and Kulex Touch Association (Kimbe).
The highest number of affiliates stood at 23 in 1995.
The current registered Touch players in PNG up to 2007 were 10,010. That’s around 600 players per association.
And the highest number of players from an affiliated member was 1009 players from Corporate Touch Port Moresby (CTPM). This was from their competition made up of 26 corporate Clubs with a 98-team competition, the highest by any affiliate of the National Body on record.
Executives
In terms of officials, The National Body has been headed by only four Presidents from inception year of 1988 to 2008. They were founding President Joe Yore (1988 to 1996), Micah Vele (1997 to 2005), Dexcy Tangaria (2006 to 2007) and Joe Yore (2008 to 2009).
National Championship
Touch Football had its first National Championship in Port Moresby between Port Moresby, Kainantu, Lae and Rabaul in 1990.
The second National Championship was held in Rabaul in 1990 participated by Port Moresby, Lae, Kainantu, Goroka, Porgera Paiela, Porgera Mine, Madang, Banz, Kimbe, Bialla and host Rabaul.
The 3rd National Championship was held in Madang with all the 5 divisional teams in 1992.
This was then followed by National Touch Championship (NTC) in Lae (1993), Port Moresby (1994) and Goroka in 1995. 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 (Lae), 2006 (Madang) and 2007 in Port Moresby.

South Pacific Games
PNG attended the 2003 XII South Pacific (SP) Games in Fiji and won Silver and Bronze in Open men and mixed open teams respectively. No women divisional team was played in the Games.
In 2007 Samoa XIII SP Games PNG won bronze medallions in the open men, women and mixed open teams.
World Cup
In 1988 Port Moresby represented Papua New Guinea (PNG) at the first world cup at Carrara Oval, Gold Coast Australia from November 14-16 with Canada, New Zealand, USA and Australia. PNG fielded open men, women, mixed and senior men divisions.
PNG attended its 2nd World Cup in Avondale Racecourse in Auckland NZ in 1991 with selected teams from the 1990 Rabaul National Championship. Teams sent to NZ included open men, women, mixed, senior men and senior women. Fiji, Cook Islands, Japan, Niue, Tokelau and Samoa participated with Australia and NZ. Participants increased from 5 to 9 since the first World Cup. Canada and USA did not participate.
Hawaii (USA) was the venue of the 3rd World Cup and PNG was represented by all five divisional teams. It was held at Kapiolani Park, Waikiki Beach from March 21-25, 1995. Countries in attendance included Australia, NZ, USA, Niue, Samoa, American Samoa, South Africa, Cook Islands, Tonga and Japan. Total of 11 counties participated.
PNG participated in the 4th World Cup in 1999 at David Philips Sports Fields, Daceyville, Sydney Australia with only the open men and open mixed teams. It was held from April 21-24.
This became our last World Cup participation with the drought period over 9 years from 2000 to 2007. PNG did not participated in the fifth World Cup was held in 2003 in Kumagaya Japan and the sixth World Cup in Stellenbosch, South Africa in 2007.
The 7th World Cup is slated to be held in Scotland in 2011.

Some notable players and officials who are still active participants of the sport in 2008 since 1984 include Ray Alova, Elisabeth Alova, Rodney Griffith, Esther Lari, Api Ravu, Joe Peregua, Lou Ebani, Joe Yore, Alma Yore, Gill Robinson, Janet Robinson, Kathy Wape, Lucy Emboge, Minare Koi, John Sabin, Murray Paiva, Tom Kapigeno, Vele Kula, Murray Kwapena and Ken Pepena to name a few.
Silver Jubilee
Touch Football in PNG celebrates 24 years of existence in April 2008, with 2009 being the silver jubilee year of Touch Football in PNG.
