The Pacific Games Council has completed negotiations with a number of international federations concerning the use of their sport's eligibility regulations at the 2013 Pacific Mini Games in Wallis & Futuna.
Consequently, the following three sports will have their competitions designated as official qualification or rankings events by their respective international federations:
Rugby Sevens – the 2013 Pacific Mini Games will be a direct qualification tournament to a leg of the 2013/14 HSBC Sevens World Series, the International Rugby Board's (IRB) annual world championship event for Rugby Sevens. This replicates the successful use of this policy at the New Caledonia 2011 Pacific Games, where the teams from Papua New Guinea and Niue qualified directly to the IRB’s 2011/2012 Gold Coast Sevens.
Weightlifting – the 2013 Pacific Mini Games will allow lifters to obtain official International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) rankings points to facilitate their participation in future IWF events.
Sailing – the 2013 Pacific Mini Games will be a graded event for sailors to obtain official International Sailing Federation (ISAF) ranking points to facilitate their participation in future ISAF events. The 2013 Pacific Mini Games Sailing event will be held in conjunction with the Oceania Sailing Federation Championships, with Australian and New Zealander athletes offered a chance to participate for the first time.
