QUARTER FINALS DELAYED BY NEW RULING

The quarter finals of the PNG Games Basketball Tournament were delayed today after games were halted at half time during the first matches of the day. The reason for the delay was in relation to the newly adjusted PNG Games Charter rule that allows only 3 ‘National’ players on each team with a limit of any 2 of those 3 taking the court at any one time....

The sporting spirit is alive and well in the PNG Games Basketball Competition. Respect for all officials from score bench officials, referees and tournament officials has been high, but most importantly the display of sportsmanship between the competing teams has been clear throughout every game at the Murray Barracks Courts....

BASKETBALL FINALS GEARING UP!

Day 5 of the PNG Games Basketball Competition came to a close today with the completion of the final pool matches. This allowed for all teams and officials to have the afternoon off and prepare for what will no doubt be some high quality basketball in the quarter finals tomorrow....

Congratulations from FIBA Oceania

The FIBA Oceania staff would like to congratulate all the teams, referees and coaches who are participating in the PNG Games. What a fantastic number of teams!

Women's basketball, with 18 teams, is the most popular women's sport at the Games, while only soccer, with 20 teams, has just 1 more team than men's basketball.

GREAT START TO PNG GAMES BASKETBALL

Friday 20th November saw the start of the PNG Games Basketball Competition at the Murray Barracks courts in Port Moresby. From the 20 Provinces of PNG there are 19 Mens teams and 18 Womens teams registered, this makes for one of the spectacular and competitive sports at the PNG Games and really highlights just how popular basketball is in Papua New Guinea.
