Athlete Profile: Teremoana Hewett from the Cook Is

Teremoana Hewett, just 15 years of age from the Cook Islands is here in Samoa representing her country in football.
Hewett started playing football at school when she was seven years old and trained at the Cook Islands Football Association Academy (CIFA). In their match against Papua New Guinea, Hewett stated "Wow, it was a very tough game, very challenging".

Makiasi's equaliser and American Samoa's comeback was the big shock of the XIII South Pacific Games Women's Football Tournament so far though Cook Islands will rue a myriad of missed chances in the first half that cost them a victory that - based on the run of play - appeared a formality.

Vanuatu have spoiled the Samoan party atmosphere at the XIII South Pacific Games with a 4-0 drubbing of host nation Samoa. The victory puts Vanuatu in second place behind Solomon Islands - 12-1 victors over American Samoa earlier today.

New Caledonia has won through in the battle for French-supremacy in Oceania thanks to a 9th minute penalty from talismanic midfield man Pierre Wajoka. Wajoka's cool finish under pressure gave New Caledonia the upper-hand in a physical encounter with Tahiti unable to breakdown a strong defensive showing led by Marc Ounemoa.

Tuvalu were woken out of their South Pacific Games slumber by a marauding Fiji tonight as goals rained in from all angles. Fiji hot-shot Roy Krishna (right)was a kid in a candy store as Tuvalu's defence dissolved into submission.

Two women's games have kicked off the action on Day One. Papua New Guinea defeated American Samoa 6-0, while Fiji got off to a good start, defeating Cook Islands 4-1.

Football to kick off SPG 2007

The XIII South Pacific Games - Samoa 2007 will get off to an explosive start when French-speaking rivals New Caledonia and Tahiti collide in a match that could ultimately decide which team qualifies for the semi-finals. New Caledonia will be battle-hardened after a four-match tour of Australia that included a 5-0 defeat against Hyundai A-League club Central Coast Mariners last week.
