Members of the
Team American Samoa are placing their sights firmly on being competitive at the Cook Islands Games set for August 2 - 9, 2009. The Cook Islands PMG committee has nominated 15 sports to be contested at their mini games. Team American Samoa will be sending 8 sports to participate in said games. Keep an eye on this web site and follow the progress of your favorite American Samoa sport or American Samoan athlete's results. The following sports will represent our fair island: athletics, boxing, golf, rugby union 7's, sailing, table tennis, Va'a(outrigger); weightlifting. Future updates will include the athlete profiles and training regimes used by our athletes as they continue to train to represent our island nation.
Beijing 2008 Update...Chef de Mission Salaia Gabbard is currently attending the Chef's de Mission's meeting in Beijing, China. Team American Samoa has qualified two sports; swimming, and athletics, for the up coming 2008 Beijing Olympics. Four sports; Judo (2 @), wrestling, boxing, and weightlifting; has requested tripartite slots. The decisions on this request will not be forth coming until mid - February 2008.
Team American Samoa's return from the 2007 Apia SPG gives hope for the future of sports here on island. Hat's off and kudo's go to the executive committee and officers of the ASNOC, and all sports associations for their hard work and dedication. Thanks to strong leadership from President Ben Solaita, SG Ken Tupua, as well as support from sponsors made the games experience successful.
The Amerika Samoa Bank played a major role in assisting the fund raising efforts for the team. Games Chef de Missions Moli Samana was also hard at work in making the games a good experience for all. Thank you all who volunteered, especially for the team store (the US chocolates were especially great).
