Palau Athletes and Olympians Commission with members of Palau NOC programs met with Sports Youth Ambassadors representing different sports in Palau to discuss and facilitate the proposed program and activities for the one day Olympic Youth Camp set for March 15th Youth Day.   As part of the core objective of the Palau Athletes and Olympians Commission, representing the voices and concerns of Athletes, The Camp – title Olympic Youth - will target young athletes between 10-18years of age who are active in their sport program, particularly young athletes, officials, sports administrators and young volunteers.

The Camp will focus on young athletes that are participating and training in the various programs offered to them through sports members recognized by the Palau NOC. The Theme will focus on the Olympic Values: Respect, Friendship and Excellence. From these values the idea is to educate and inspire these young people to further understand the following Subject matters related to their sports participation as well as their overall development: The Olympic Values Integration to our Society and Culture (Social Responsibilities) , Anti Doping and Sports, Nutrition, Education Pathway through Sports and Career, Sports For All – Youth Games, Stop HIV Program, and Voices of Athletes.  CAMP REGISTRATION FORM AVAILABLE GO TO "Publications and Reports" Section.

 The Palau NOC will be closed from Thursday December 29, 2011 to Tuesday January 3rd, 2012.  The Palau NOC Office will reopen for regular business hours from 8am to 5pm on Wednesday 4th of January 2012.

Palau National Olympic Committee held its Annual General Meeting at the Palau Pacific Resort on Thursday, 10th November 2011.

Playing at their best today, Team Palau Baseball played their game against CNMI and took the Bronze Medal (8-0). CNMI and Guam will play for Gold and Silver Tomorrow.

The Palau Athletics Team competed in the 200m and 400m sprints. Ruby Joy Gabriel clocked 29.02 in the 200m women and Rodman Teltull clocked 23.22 while John Stills clocked 23.45. in the men’s 200m event. In the event of Weightlifting, our Palau lifter Maverick Faustino competed today in his weight class of 94kg where he snatched 95kg, clean & jerk 120 total of 215 in his event, ranking 5^th place.

The day kicked off with Weightlifter Dmitri Villanueva’s event, where he snatched 93kg and did a max personal best of clean & jerk at a 110kg. Dmitri did his max in the event with total weight of 203 where he ranked 6^th in his weight class.

In his first event of the day today, Sept 5, 2011,  and the final event, the top male athlete Weightlifter Stevick Patris achieved Team Palau the first Silver and two Bronze in his 62kg Weightclass.  Congratulations to Stevick.  Stevick is in the same class as Manuel from FSM Team.  The two remaining lifters Dmitri and Maverick will be lifting tomorrow and wednesday in their respective weightclass.  (photo: Stevick showing his medals with members of Team Palau coaches and managers)

Team Palau 2011 in Noumea are doing okay with the last week of the games left. The rest of the teams are starting all their events today 5^th September with Beach Volleyball kicking off the day with the Men’s Beach Volleyball against CNMI team all the way to three sets and CNMI taking away the last set with scores of CNMI 15 and Palau 11. The first set won by CNMI 21 and Palau 16 and 2^nd set taken by Palau 21 and CNMI 18. The Women Beach volleyball played their first game with Tahiti with only two sets to Tahiti (1^st set Tahiti 21 and Palau 8 and 2^nd set Tahiti 21 and Palau 9).

As a tradition for 10 years at the PNOC Sports Award Banquet and as part of the IOC NOC program, Mr. John Tarkong, an Olympian and now coach for Palau national wrestling program was the recipient for the IOC 2010 Trophy, entitled :  Sports - Inspiring young People.  Mr. Tarkong was selected among the top sports people in Palau.  He was presented this award for his commitment to many young wrestlers who he has brought to the programat very young ages and has provided mentorship, guidance and even open his home to many wrestlers in the past years and continue to do today.  Mr. Tarkong is an active athlete, coach and a strong advocate of sports programs in Palau and represents Palau in FILA as the President of Oceania Wrestling.  Congratulations Mr. Tarkong.

The Palau National Olympic Committee and national sports federations celebrated with Sportspeople at the 10th Annual Sports Banquet on the 9th of April - PNOC Day.  The event was held at Ngarachemayong Cultural Center.   The event recognized sports athletes, coaches, volunteers, officials, partners and supporters for the program of 2010 and beyond.  The evening highlighted many youth athletes.  The Palau NOC was very fortunate to have the ONOC Secretary General, Rick Blas, attend and was a guest speaker at this NOC Annual Function.  The Female Athlete of the Year 2010 was awarded to Ayana Rengiil of Palau Tennis Federation and Male Athlete of the Year was awarded to Olai Kumangai of Palau Triathlon Federation. 

The Palau National Olympic Committee started the New Year celebrating Palau’s Sports Heroes as well as individuals whose contributions to sports programs over the past years in Palau.  

On December 14th 2010, the Palau Conservation Society (PCS) received a $10,000 grant from the Palau National Olympic Committee (PNOC) through the International Olympic Committee Sports & Environment Programs as part of a collaborative effort between the two organizations to bring together sports and the environment.
