Over in the Water Cube where the Aquatics competition is held, Palau’s Swimmer Amber Sikosang Yobech competed in the 50m freestyle event. Out of the 12 heats and 90 swimmers, Siko competed in the 3rd heat with fellow Micronesians from the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia. Coming into this event, Yobech’s personal best time was 32.4 seconds.
Siko had a great start in her event as the last person to break the surface after her dive start and coming out ahead of most of the other swimmers in her heat. She finished 3rd in her heat breaking her own personal best time with a result of 30.0 seconds (unofficial). Yobech is proud of her achievement and says that she felt very relaxed and well focused before her event and feels like sho could go out and do it all over again! Swimming Coach, Tina Shima, says that Yobech has improved her technique tremendously and she is not surprised with Yobech’s amazing performance.
Yobech finished 71st overall out of the 92 swimmers. The official results of the rest of the Pacific Islanders’ in the 50m freestyle are listed below:
