Rio De Janeiro win Olympic 2016 bid Rio de Janeiro will welcome the 31st Summer Olympics in August 2016. The decision was announced by IOC President Jacques Rogge in Copenhagen on Friday night. Rio was one of the last two cities left in the running by the evening, after Chicago and Tokyo had been ousted in earlier rounds but between Madrid and Rio, the votes were uneven and the Brazilian city got almost twice as many as Madrid, the other candidate left in the evening. Badminton is assured of a spot in the 2016 Olympics and the event should be held - according to the bid - near the Olympic village. more -->
