Major Regional conference held for the first time in Gym 1 sports Facility

SECRETARIAT OF THE PACIFIC REGIONAL PROGRAMME (SPREP)concludes there major Regional conference today the 20/11/09 which commenced on the 16/11/09. SSFa was excited to assit with the set as this is the very first time we have held a conference of this importance and magnitude in Gym 1 aside from all the concerts and sports events. SPREP have proviced positive feedback on the venue.

OJU JUDO WORLD CUP IN SAMOA FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS!

Judo Samoa, SSFA and the Government of Samoa are excited with the announcement of the Judo World Cup to be awarded to Samoa for 2010,2011 and 2012 based on a successful World Event recently held in Samoa from the 12-18 of November, 2009. this is great for Samoa overall especially in the wake of the Tsunami that hit Samoa on the 29th of September, 2009.

Funeral Service at Apia Park

Funeral services for Tsunami victims were held at the Apia Park Stadium complex on Thursday, October 8th. The stadium was full to capacity with mourners, many of whom came from overseas to attend.

Dive Pool Opens to Public

The Samoa Sports Facilities Authority has been working on making the dive pool at the Samoa Aquatic Centre open and available to the public. The pool is an IOC (International Olympic Committee) certified dive pool that is an excellent resource for the people of Samoa.

This week marks the beginning of a new year of high school athletics once more. After a year long hiatus, many schools are rearing to go for it. Many schools have already booked their time at the Apia Park Stadium for their school sports day. Thus far Samoa College have had their day on the field, along with Avele College.

Oceania Netball Comes to Samoa

Faleata Lawn Bowls Club Signs Lease

This week on April 27th The Prime Minister the Honourable Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, Prime Minister of Samoa, who is also the President of the Faleata Lawn Bowls Club, signed the lease for the Bowling Club on behalf of the club membership and officially took over the lease for it's land & facilities.

SAVAGE NIGHT!

While standing outside the Faleata Sports Gym 1, you could be forgiven for thinking the roof was coming down as the thunderous sound of 'Choohoo' emanated from the Gym. This was a 'slamin' night for hundreds of Savage fans who rapped the night away and chanted 'Stop Drop N Roll' along with Savage as he rapped out his rhymes last Friday night.

The office staff of the SSFA have gone on a 6 week in-house health challenge. The latest is that hey are making an effort to change their eating habits, are exercising more and many are even drinking up to 2 or more liters of water per day!

Both the Basketball and Volleyball Associations have now signed leases with the SSFA for Gym 2. This gives them both greater access to the Gym to further develop their sport and the chance train more. Welcome to these two groups and look forward to working with them in the coming years!

Both the Wrestling and Weightlifting Associations recently signed a 2 year lease for half of the Sports Centre Facility at Faleata. The wrestling folks are clearly proud to have the use of this facility and it was also timely with the hosting of the Oceania Wrestling Tournament.

Toa Samoa send off for Rugby League World Cup

On Friday night, Rugby League Samoa Inc. hosted a farewell function for Toa Samoa bound for the Rugby League World Cup in Australia from 25 October — 22 November, 2008.
The function was held in the SSFA, Gymnasium #1, a popular venue for major sporting events as well as significant functions in Samoa.

Success for '08 Commonwealth Youth Team

Samoa's Commonwealth Youth Games team arrived home last night with four medals to show off; 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze.
The third Youth Commonwealth Games (for athletes between the ages of 16 an 18 years) was held from the 12th - 18th of October 2008 in Pune, India.

On Thursday 28th August 2008, the Samoa Sports Facilties Authority (SSFA) and the Samoa Squash Rackets Association (SSRA) signed a landmark lease agreement which entailed that the squash courts located at Gymnasium 2, Faleata, will now be leased exclusively by the aforementioned.
