Apia Update 3
Team Fiji had their first taste of competition in the 8th Oceania Swimming Championships on Tuesday (Apia time) with all the team members participating in the morning session. It was a good first outing for the team with 10 Personal Best times and 3 National Records.

Fiji Gas supports Oceania Team
Fiji Gas, Fiji's # 1 Gas company has come on board as a supporter of the Fiji Swimming Team to Oceania Championships.
The company's contribution will assist in meeting the team's accommodation and meals in Samoa.

The contrast in conditions at Natadola for day 2 couldn’t have been greater, calm with just a gentle swell for the 5km individual event, held over a two lap course and the 5 x 1km relay.

Top Swimmers off to Samoa
Swimming's national Team Manager Willie Elaisa is sending Fiji's fastest swimmers to the Oceania Swimming Championship in Samoa next month.
The team is made up of many young, talented swimmers who have extensive experience in overseas competitions.

Big Splash for Charity
Donations from the Stingrays Swimming Club were a source of joy and appreciation for boys at the Boys Centre in Walu Bay. Assistant Director of Child Services Fiji Rupeni Fatiaki received the items on behalf of the centre at the Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay yesterday.
Technical Officials Clinic
FINA Technical Swimming Committee Vice Chairman, Don Blew, conducted the first of 2 Technical Officials' clinics in Suva on 7-8 May. He will be running sessions in Nadi on Monday and Tuesday.
These clinics are funded through the FINA Development Programme.

The stand out swim was Meli Malani’s 50m Freestyle where he set a new Under 15 Boys record in a time of 26.07 seconds. The previous record of 26.34 seconds was set by Calum Liew at the 2003 South Pacific Games.

Oceania Trials Day 1
The stand out swim of Day 1 of Fiji Swimming's Oceania Championships Trials was Tieri Erasito's new National U17 Girls record in the 200m Butterfly. Tieri's time of 2:37.96 smashed her previous record of 2:39.21 set in Noumea in February this year.

Nudgee Wins GPS Again
Douglas Miller was again part of the St. Joseph's Nudgee College Swim Team that dominated the 2010 Queensland GPS Championships on 5 March at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre. Nudgee took out the Championships for the 2nd year in a row.

Fiji Ocean Swim Series Date Change
The date for Event 2 of the Fiji Ocean Swim Series has been changed due to many swimmers already committed to the Easter Waitui Outrigger Regatta at Wailoaloa.
Event 2 at Natadola:
Saturday 27th March: 700m & 2.5k
Sunday 28th March: 5k individual and 5 x 1 k Teams
Young swimmers shine at Natadola
Mako Swim Club dominated the top placings at the Fiji Ocean Swim Series Race 1 held in perfect conditions off Yatule Beach Resort at Natadola last weekend.
The two day event featured races over 700m, 2.5km, 5km and a 5 x 1km relay with the Mako Club’s fast improving junior swimmers prominent in all events.

Tieri wins bronze, breaks record again
On the final night of swimming in Noumea, Tieri Erasito placed third in the 200m Butterfly. She also broke her own Under 17 Girls National Record again with a new time of 2:39.21 which took just under 4 seconds off the record she set in the morning heats.

Noumea Day 3 update
Tieri Erasito and Matelita Buadromo are the two swimmers from Fiji remaining in the competition as the other team members have completed their events.
In this morning's session, both girls qualified for the finals tonight: Tieri in the 200m Butterfly and Matelita in the 200m Breaststroke.
Tieri set a new Under 17 Girls record in the 200m Butterfly heats. Her new time of 2:43.19 was under her old record time of 2:44.15 set in November 2008.

2010 Fiji Ocean Swim Series
A new Fiji Ocean Swim Series will be launched this month with the first events being held at the Yatule Beach Resort Natadola.
The series comprises 6 events over 9 months with various distances. Venues include Natadola, Pacific Harbour, Nacula (Yasawas), Plantation Island and Denarau Nadi.

First Grand Prix to start 2010 Season
Swimmers from 7 clubs will take to the NAdi Sports Club Pool this Saturday 13 February for the first Short Course Grand Prix for 2010.
This is the first competitive event of 2010 and swimmers will be going for new PBs and records and for many, this will be the beginning of their 2010 campaign towards the Oceania Championships in Samoa in June and the Pacific Games in Noumea in 2011.

2009 Pacific Sun Fiji Swimming Awards Night
A night to remember: Fiji Swimming caps off the 2009 swimming year in style. Two sets of awards were presented on the night, which was themed as a 'Red Carpet' event and hosted by the Babale Swim Club in the Suva International School Gymnasium.
