Around the Grounds in the lower grades this week again saw one of the biggest wins in recent memory, as Belconnen produced a stunning performance in Second Grade.
Belconnen booted 41 majors as they produced an amazing 268-point victory over Gungahlin in Second Grade. Queanbeyan and Ainslie also notched up wins.
Queanbeyan sprung an upset over an unbeaten Eastlake side in the Rising Stars, whilst Ainslie ran away with a 172-point win over Tuggeranong. They were joined in the winners’ circle by Marist.
ANU remain unbeaten in Third Grade, with another win to Woden ensuring that they remain hot on the heels of the competition favourites. ADFA/RMC also collected the points.
Harman and ANU are again in a shootout to go to outright first on the Fourth Grade ladder after they both emerged victorious. ADFA/RMC join the top two as victors in Round 7.
Yass produced a spirited comeback, but it wasn’t enough to topple Cootamundra in the Regional Grade. Cooma and Goulburn collected wins off the back of dominant performances.
Tuggeranong ended Belconnen’s undefeated start in the Women’s Grade. Queanbeyan, Gungahlin, and Ainslie also produced victories.
SECOND GRADE (ROUND 4)
Queanbeyan 15.19.109 defeated Eastlake 6.8.44
Zachary Douch booted six goals and collected Best on Ground honours as the Tigers collected their second win to move in to fourth on the table.
Belconnen 41.22.268 defeated Gungahlin 0.0.0
In one of the biggest wins in recent memory, the Magpies cruised to a remarkable 268-point victory, with fourteen players kicking majors and keeping the opposition scoreless in the process.
Ainslie 12.5.77 defeated Tuggeranong 3.14.32
Inaccuracy cruelled the home side, unable to slot a goal as Ainslie raced to an eight goal lead at the main break. It was a different story in the second half, but the halftime margin proved too much to overcome.
RISING STARS (ROUND 4)
Queanbeyan 10.8.68 defeated Eastlake 8.2.50
Queanbeyan’s upset win over the previously unbeaten Demons was their second of the year, and sees them move in to the top four on the competition ladder.
Marist 17.10.112 defeated Belconnen 4.5.29
Marist skipped out to a six-goal lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they collected their third win in as many games.
Ainslie 26.18.174 defeated Tuggeranong 0.2.2
The Tricolours produced the most dominant performance of the round, with Josh Hogan judged best afield after kicking eight goals.
THIRD GRADE (ROUND 7)
Woden 13.20.92 defeated Batemans Bay 5.2.32
Matthew Fenech was Woden’s best as the Blues continued their strong start to the 2015 season, solidifying their place in the top two.
ANU 13.7.85 defeated Molonglo 6.9.45
The Griffins overcame a first quarter deficit to continue their undefeated start to the Third Grade competition, with Samuel Bishop booting four majors.
ADFA/RMC 14.14.98 defeated UC 4.2.26
The Rams only conceded eight points in the final three quarters, with a strong defensive performance laying the platform for Thomas Bishop to kick six goals.
FOURTH GRADE (ROUND 7)
Harman 11.10.76 defeated Woden 4.5.29
Daniel Spratt slotted three majors for the home side, as they widened the gap between second and third on the ladder.
ANU 18.13.121 defeated Molonglo 6.6.42
ANU continued their brilliant start to the season, holding their place on top of the table as Josh Cliff kicked eight goals.
ADFA/RMC 18.19.127 defeated UC 2.2.14
Matthew Dobney kicked seven of his side’s majors as the Rams snared their second win of the season, maintaining their place in the top four.
REGIONAL GRADE (ROUND 7)
Cooma 15.10.100 defeated Ainslie 8.11.59
The Cats trailed at quarter time away from home, but responded in the second term and continued their charge up the competition ladder.
Goulburn 20.14.134 defeated Tuggeranong 5.8.38
Heath Russell was judged Best on Ground for the Swans as they collected the points for the fifth time in 2015, holding their place one game clear at the top of the table.
Cootamundra 14.7.91 defeated Yass 10.18.78
The Blues held off a late comeback from the opposition after they led by 32 points at quarter time, the home side valiant in defeat.
WOMENS GRADE (ROUND 4)
Ainslie 8.13.61 defeated ANU 5.1.31
In the tightest game of the round, it was the Tricolours that prevailed, coming from behind at quarter time to win their first game of the season.
Queanbeyan 13.14.92 defeated ADFA/RMC 2.4.16
Cassandra Reid slotted eight goals as the away side collected their second win for 2015, moving in to fifth on the table.
Gungahlin 9.3.57 defeated Molonglo 3.4.22
Down at the main break, Gungahlin responded to the challenge in the second half, outscoring the opposition by thirty-nine points to zero.
Tuggeranong 10.6.66 defeated Belconnen 0.5.5
Tuggeranong ended Belconnen’s unbeaten start to the season, coming up trumps with a dominant 61-point victory.
Eastlake forfeited against Riverina.
