The 15th Pacific Games ended on a high note for PNG Athletics with Kupsy Bisamo winning the 21.1km half marathon road race in 1hr 14min 11secs from George Richmond (Tahiti) and AvikashLal (Fiji). Miriam Goiye also ran strongly to win the bronze medal in the womens race with a time of 1hr 31min 22 secs. Bisamo had been in third place at the half way point where Lal had a significant lead but maintained a steady pace when Lal tired and at the 15km pointBisamo and Richmond went past the Fijian together. Richmond responded to Bisamo’s challenge and held the lead until the final kilometer when the PNG runner finally broke away. His win made up for a disappointing 5000m race on Thursday in which Bisamo faded to fourth after being in a good position to challenge for a medal. The final medal haul for PNG at the Games was 22 gold 19 silver and 16 bronze from the 44 events.
