Chinese U18, Fiji Select Match-Up

A Fiji Select team will play two matches against the Chinese national U18 women’s basketball team on Wednesday and Thursday next week at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

The Chinese team is currently on tour in Australia and is the number one ranked team in the Asian region in the senior and junior grades.

Basketball Fiji chief operating officer Lai Puamau said this will be an opportune time for Fijians to learn from the best in Asia.

“Basketball Fiji in partnership with the Chinese Basketball Association agreed to host the Chinese team,” Puamau said.

“The Fiji Select team will be led by Valerie Nainima who is based in the United States and possibly players like Milikere Koimanavure, Leba Korovou and Vilisi Tavui.

“The Chinese team is the number one in Asia and we believe we can put together a team that can be competitive against them.”

The Chinese team arrive on September 20.
