3X3 SOLO HOOPS - B’ball Slam Series is back
(Honiara 23.09.19) - The Solomon Island Basketball Federation (SIBF) along with Solomon Basketball and Passion Events is organizing a 3x3-basketball championship series slated for this month and in October.
The 2-part series is for now called the 3x3 Solo Hoops: Basketball Slam Series and is set to tip-off this Sunday 29th October, 2019 at the Multi-purpose hall basketball court, starting at 9am.
The 3x3 Basketball Slam Series is organized as part of the SIBFs overall 3x3-competition development plans. The current competitions are mainly to promote the new code, and to also help Solomon Islands qualify for on-gong FIBA endorsed 3x3 competitions organized for the Oceania region in 2020.
3x3 basketball is currently the most preferred format of recreational basketball played around the world and is increasingly becoming a popular form of competitive Basketball.
3x3 recently was elevated to an Olympic Sport status and the sport will be played as a new sporting sub-code featured in all future Olympic Games.
According to the organizers, 3x3 basketball is a fast paced and fiercely competitive game that can showcase skill and develop local stars. 3x3 is a game for both genders that is enjoyed in a recreational setting by and for all skill levels. This makes recreational and competitive 3x3 events fun and entertaining to both players and fans, reaching out to those who have traditionally not been a part of the basketball community.
SIBF believes that the program will benefit all urban sports that have a link to the street and popular culture like 3x3, Self- refereeing, individual skills, shooting, dunking and promoting a community of respect and tolerance through fun.
3x3 Basketball Slam Series is registered online and is a FIBA endorsed event. All players with 3x3 profiles can always check their rankings online as well.
Organizers are aiming for 14 teams in total (8 men’s and 6 women’s) that will compete in Series 1 this weekend and will continue onto the second round on 13th October, 2019. The pool rounds will be played on this Sunday from 9am to 4pm, with the final rounds to be played by next weekend before the crowning of the Series winners.
The 3x3 championship slam series will feature top men and women’s open teams such and will be open for high school teams that are interested as well.
All teams registered must check on-line on the 3x3planet.com for more details and finalize their registration fees before taking the court on this Sunday.
