HONIARA GEARING UP FOR YOUTH BBALL ACTION IN NSSG 2021

The City of Honiara is in for some long-awaited basketball action during the National Secondary School Games (NSSG) 2021 which officially launched on Monday 28th June 2021.

A total of 16 different schools will be participating in the sport of basketball.

Basketball fans will feast on 6 days of action between some of the newest and rawest talents participating schools have to offer.

In its inaugural event, NSSG 2021 will see a total of 16 schools playing under the boy's category and 8 schools playing in the girls' category.

The boy’s category has been drawn up into four (4) different pools to cater to a large number of entries and the girls' category has two pools.

Organized by the Solomon Islands Basketball federation (SIBF) under the coordination of the NSSG Games Committee, the competition will maintain a tight schedule throughout until the finals on Tuesday 6th July 2021.

“We are looking forward to seeing the school children play in a c competitive but friendly environment,” said SIBF President Cyril Rachman.

“This is an opportunity to identify young talents and players in each sport, so basketball is keen on seeing what players are coming out from the participating schools”, he added.

More than 200 young basketball players will have an opportunity to play in the NSSG 2021 basketball competition, and this effectively makes it the single biggest event for basketball since 1987.

“Whilst competition is a key part of the games, we also want to emphasize the unity and sportsmanship the theme of the game is proclaiming which is “Games Blo Iumi”, said President Rachman.

“We hope we can identify also new talents and potential players for basketball in this competition”.

All games will tip-off on Tuesday 29th June 2021, at the old SMI, SINPF Sports area at Townground, opposite Sol Plaza.
