SKBA IS BACK

The Solomon Kids Basketball Academy (SKBA) is back after a long pause since 2019.

The country's first-ever school kids academy for basketball has been on hold for more than a year due to COVID-19 and other factors. However, SKBA commenced with more than 50 children on Thursday 1st September at its usual venue, which was very encouraging, according to the Solomon Islands Basketball Federation (SIBF) President, Mr. Cyril Rachman.

SIBF President Rachman was invited to formally open the program, and provide some very brief remarks to the children and parents/guardians who were there to be part of the first session.

"I want to acknowledge SKBA Management, Chung Wah School, the volunteers, and parents for seeing the importance of rolling out this program again", President Cyril said.

"SIBF will continue to support SKBA, who is a member of the federation, as much as it can to see that the program completes successfully this year", he added.

SKBA Coach Moses Kivo was also happy to see the children, including new young members, and encouraged them on throughout the sessions with the help of some parents and volunteers.

"We are commencing this program because of the need to introduce the basics of basketball at this primary school age level" coach Moses explained.

"We hope to expand and get more support as it is vital in making sure we continue teaching the kids about the sport of basketball, and positive characteristics and behaviors towards sports and healthy living", he added.

The SKBA program takes place every Tuesday and Thursday at Chung Wah school from 5 pm - 6:30 pm. Children can be registered at the venue, and sessions are $10 per child. For more information call 7473234 or 7515700 or visit the SKAB Facebook page.
