Head Coach of the Noosa Reef Hotel Cyclones Mens team Nick Cooper is satisfied with his teams start to the 2012 QBL D-league Season after beating Ipswich over the weekend. At the leisure centre on Sunday the Cyclones Mens team defeated Ipswich 86 to 80 in their 4th game of the season, taking their season tally to 3 wins and 1 loss. Noosa led on the scoreboard for the entire game against Ipswich, however whenever Noosa looked to stretch their lead beyond 12 points Ipswich rallied with some big 3 pointers. The game came down to execution in the final minutes and for Noosa, Captain Jack Hunt took control ending the game with 29 points and making several key passes to his team mates. Centre Jacob Klienberg was great on the rebounds and rookie counterpart Nelson Kahler was great in the keyway finishing with 19 points.
The team has accounted for Maroochydore and Logan, however failed to defeat last years Championship team Gold Coast Seahawks, during the first 3 rounds.
The team will take on West Logan Saturday night 6pm and then South West Metro on Sunday afternoon 1pm followed by the women’s game at 3pm at the Leisure Centre. West Logan and South West Metro are quality opponents with 2 wins each and will test the Cyclones.
Noosa Basketball will also host Junior Grand Finals this Friday night and Saturday Morning. Times are as follows: Friday 4.30pm U16b Noosa District vs Black Lightning,5.20pm U16/18g St Andrews vs St Teresa’s, 6.10pm u18b St Teresa’s vs White Cyclones. Saturday 8am U14g St Teresa’s vs White Suns, 9am Mini Hoops, 9.30am U14 Good Shepard Lutheran College vs Black Lightning, 10.30am U12 Golden Hornets vs Red Belly Blacks.
