Friday night saw the grand Finals for the under 16 boys, under 16/18 Girls and the under 18 boys. Under 16 boys Grand Final was played out between; Noosa District V Black Lightning, NDHS with several new season players along with some representative experience came to play and played with the determination of the underdogs and really took the game to Black Lightning with the score sea-sawing the game could have gone either way and it looked like NDHS might just bring home the win however Lachie Caple upped the anti and knocked down a couple of valuable 3 pointers in the final minutes to steal the game away by 7 points.. The Girls Grand Final was played between St Andrews and St Teresas - another very exciting game with both teams fielding several representative players, the game was a battle of the "Saints". St Teresas had a terrific support group with teachers and students turning up in their red "STCC Flock" t shirts with practiced chants and songs to spur the girls on however St Andrews proved too strong and came out clear winners 43 - 30 .... Under 16/18 Girls MVP: Elliarn Dixon and MIP: Georgia Kenrick.
Under 18 boys saw White Suns take on St Teresa's in a nail biting game of fast breaks, steals and 3 pointers, White Suns came out and took the lead early with Kodi Wullf pushing the ball at every opportunity but St T's were not to be underestimated and with the power of their cheer squad intimidating their opponents, fought their way back into the game and over took White Suns in the dying minutes of the game to come out victors by just 2 points 55 - 53. Under 18 Boys MVP: Kodi Wullf and MIP: Shannon Lacey.
Saturday morning started with the U14 girls clash between St Teresa's and White Suns. the much taller St Teresa's girls capitalised on the boards however the smaller less experienced White Suns fought hard the whole game and really made St Teresa's work for their win 51 - 43 Under 14 girls MVP: Amy Benjamin, MIP: Darcy Condon.
The Mini Hoops kids played an exhibition match to show our Noosa Family what wonderful talent we are producing and what a wonderful job our trainees and junior representative players are doing, whilst there was contact, double dribbling and traveling these youngsters are gaining valuable skills and knowledge to enjoy this great game.
Under 14 Boys Grand Final was between Good Shepherd and Black Lightning, both teams have some talented young players and both teams wanted to take home the gold and whilst the final score of 48 - 34 might indicate it was an easy win for GSLC in actual fact they had to play their hearts out to overcome the determination and effort of Black Lightning who ran out of puff towards the end giving GSLC the victory. Under 14 Boys MVP: Ryan Ashley, MIP: Eugene Moore.
This was our first season for the Under 12 mixed competition and at the begining of the season teams where scimping and scraping for players by the end of the season all teams had about 10 players, which is fabulous growth and will see the continuation of this comp next season. The Golden Hornets took on Red lightning in a terrific game of basketball, it was exciting to see the skill level that these players have gained over the season, how they husseled for the ball, rebounded and hit contested shots and the game was neck and neck the whole way through it could have been anyones game but in the dying minutes Red Lightning missed a couple of baskets which The Golden Hornets capitalised on and they stole the game by just 4 points. Under 12 mixed MVP: Ryan Hunt, MIP: James Beadle.
Thank you to all our wonderful volunteer Parent coaches, to our trainees and everyone who made the Grand Finals series a huge success. Congratulations to our Referees on being awarded Grand Final games - you all did a fabulous job.
