ACTIVE RECOVERY AT THE MASTERS GAMES
Swiss-based company COMPEX will be setting up its well-known recovery areas at the finishing line of the Time Trial and Road Race. Thanks to the constant research behind its neuromuscular stimulators, COMPEX is confident that these units are ideal tools to aid athletes in the recovery from gruelling competitions and training sessions.
Muscle spasms, high lactic acid levels, contractures and pain can be reversed quickly - to the amazement of most athletes who have already visited the Compex recovery areas. The Compex recovery areas also provide a great social environment for athletes to compare notes and exchange encouragement. In fact, Compex Active Recovery areas are now a common sight both in Europe (Tour de France, major marathons such as Nice, Berlin...) and triathlons (World Triathlon Championship, Ibiza).
In Australia Compex has already recovered athletes at some of the most prestigious events such as the Sydney Blue Line Marathon, Noosa and Mooloolaba Triathlons, the Kurnell Triathlon series, Yeppoon and Canberra Half Ironman, etc . Elite athletes throughout the world are now using Compex technology not only for recovery but for rehabilitation and training purposes, amongst them Herman Maier, Justine Henin (recent winner of the French Open), Erik Zabel, Benoit P (winner Paris Marathon 2002), Australia's Accenture series triathletes Simon Thompson and Liz Blatchford...
Post training or race recovery, is possibly the most important part of maintaining the longevity of muscles, tendinous structure and therefore the articular structures moved by the muscle. The build-up of radicals and ischaemia from spasm if not reversed quickly would have obvious detrimental microscopic impact on the muscle, tendons, bones and joints which rely on the muscles to a large extend for blood supply.
Clearly nutrition plays important part in the muscle recovery. But the acute ischaemic phase post race or training needs to be reversed actively. The flow improvement from Electro Muscular Stimulation is well documented and occurs at a frequency that cannot be voluntarily generated. This washes out radicals and allows oxygen and nutrients to be carried into the tissue.
Blood flow in tissues and in muscles is increased as well, allowing athletes to speedily restore the function and balance of the cells and the interstitial liquid. With the increment in blood flow, toxins elimination is accelerated. Both ionic balance and reserves of glycogen are restored more rapidly too. The progressive decrease in intensity characteristic of these programs, allows an increment in the production of natural peptides (substance which induce a diminution of pain, a general relaxation of muscles and a reduction in anxiety). To top it all up, the resulting increase in endorphinic production causes a much needed - and appreciated! - general muscular relaxation".
So, enjoy your Master Games but make sure your body recovers actively and efficiently enough with COMPEX to be able to enjoy many more events!!
