Congratulations NZ U16 Boys

The New Zealand Under16 Boys teams did extremely well at the Australian State Championships in Geelong last week. The Boys finished third in the competition, possibly New Zealand’s best ever performance at the U16 championships.

North Harbour were strongly represented, Sam Waardenburg, Dan Fotu, Thabo Manyere and Dan Fotu were all members of the successful team.

The team could quite easily have reached the final losing a close encounter with traditional powerhouse Victoria Metro 70-64.

The 3rd/4th game was against NSW Metro, New Zealand the victors 64-59.

Sam Waardenburg had a sensational tournament, he was the leading rebounder and tenth highest scorer, averaging a double double of 11 rebounds and 13 points a game.

Thabo Manyere (5 pts/5 rebounds per game), Cameron Stone (3.5ppg) and Dan Fotu (8pts/5 rebounds per game) also made significant contributions.

Dan Fotu is the third member of the Fotu household to represent New Zealand. Older sister Ella represented NZ at the FIBA Youth 3x3 World Championships last year and brother Isaac is a current member of the Tall Blacks.
