Latest news on Harbour players at USA colleges

Amidst the recent Thanksgiving celebrations in the States there were plenty of performances from former Harbour players to admire.

Sam Waardenburg scored 9 points and added 6 rebounds, including 4 offensive boards, as the Miami Hurricanes blew past North Florida 86-65.

According to the Associated Press poll the Hurricanes that are currently rated 10th in the nation and they further endorsed that ranking with an 86-81 win at No 12 Minnesota. Waardenburg played 10 minutes and garnered a rebound in a game that was screened live on Sky TV.

Matt Freeman scored 8 points and added a pair of assists to go with 4 rebounds as Oklahoma Sooners beat Portland 93-71.

Virginia Cavaliers won a seventh straight game with centre Jack Salt contributing 8 rebounds (for the second straight game) along with 4 points (2/2FG) in the low scoring 49-37 win against Wisconsin.

 Dartmouth College secured a tight 64-63 win against Loyola. Isaac Letoa came off the bench and chipped in with 2 points and 2 rebounds for the Big Green who improved to 2-2 for the season.

Alex Talma and Biola University are in good shape at present having strung together five straight wins following a couple of losses in the opening two fixtures.

In the latest win Talma came off the bench to help secure a narrow 96-93 win against Life Pacific and garnered 3 rebounds to go with 5 points. 24 hours earlier the ex Westlake big scored 8 points in the win against Pomona-Pitzer but fouled out in 20 minutes.

Next up for Biola is a two game trip to Hawaii including a match-up with Denhym Brooke and the Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans who were without a game this week.

And for the women……

Brooke Blair posted a team high in points (12) and rebounds (7) as Idaho State Bengals improved to 5-1 for the season with a convincing 64-44 victory against Utah State. Blair is leading the Bengals in scoring over the first six games averaging 15.9 points per game.

While brother Isaac was back in NZ playing for the Tall Blacks, Ella Fotu dished a team high 5 assists to help Hawaii Pacific Sharks to a 75-61 win against Minnesota – Fotu also scored 8 points for the 3 and 1 Sharks.

Tera Reed has made a terrific start to her career at Virginia Commonwealth and in her most recent outingrecorded 17 points and 9 rebounds in the 83-67 defeat at UNC Wilmington.

In her previous outing Reed produced a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Unfortunately in that game Mercer University showed no mercy beating the Rams 70-54.

Zara Jillings didn’t post any points but her 2 rebounds, assist, block and a steal contributed to Fordham Rams beating Manhattan 54-48 in the ‘Battle of the Bronx’.

Katie Diakhaby is piling on the points and rebounds for Northeastern Junior College. In her latest outing the former Orewa College forward dominated proceedings with 26 points and 12 rebounds in the 67-42 win against York.

Georgie Perrott-Hunt scored 5 points and Olivia Bell 4 points as North Dakota State College Wildcats purred past Iowa Lakes 72-66.
