Jody Cameron appointed Women's Basketball Development Officer

Harbour Basketball CEO, John Hunt is delighted to announce the appointment of Jody Cameron to the position of Women’s Basketball Development Officer.

“Harbour Basketball is thrilled that Jody will be joining us as our Women’s Development Officer. Jody has been the driving force behind many aspects of our women’s programme for many years. We have finally been able to formalise a fulltime role for Jody that will specifically benefit the participation, development and pathways for all girls and women within the Harbour region and those regions that are closely associated with Harbour.”

Jody’s primary responsibility will be to grow participation numbers across all ages and identify athletes who can play representative basketball and ultimately earn New Zealand age group and Tall Fern selection.

In addition Jody will articulate the pathway for girls to gain college basketball scholarships in the States.

Jody is looking forward to her new role. “I can’t wait to begin working with players and coaches within the Harbour and surrounding regions. I’m keen to collaborate with coaches in the greater Auckland and Northland regions.”

“It’s an exciting time and era to get a Women’s Development Officer in place. It’s not as if I am new on the block, having coached for a number of years, but it is nice now to be in a position that I can give all my energies to the game on a full time basis.

“I want to grow the number of players participating in the game at all levels.

“I also want people to know that I am available to help. I don’t want people to think it is exclusive to Harbour girls and coaches. Many people think that they have to be at a certain level to get coaching but I want them to know that that is not the case,” she added.

Jody of course had a distinguished playing career before entering the coaching arena.

She debuted for the Tall Ferns as a 20 year-old and went on to represent New Zealand at the 2004 Athens Olympics and win a silver medal at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

Jody completed a unique Commonwealth Games double in her role as Tall Ferns assistant coach at the recent Gold Coast Games.

In 2017 Jody was Head Coach of the New Zealand team that won silver at the U17 Women’s Oceania Championship in Guam and is currently Head Coach of the NZ Junior Tall Ferns team preparing for the Asia Championship in India later this year.
