Harbour Breeze beat Tauranga

Harbour Breeze completed their Women’s Basketball Championship (WBC) regular season campaign on Saturday with a comprehensive 108-55 win against Tauranga City Coasters.

Played at AUT Sports Centre the Breeze forged an early 23-9 lead – Keeley Tini scored 9 first quarter points in a pacey opening won 31-17 by the hosts.

The Coasters made a run early in the second before a put back from Katie Diakhaby took Harbour to a 43-27 lead.

Triples, late in the period, from Jordyn Maddix and Tabitha Jenkins blew the Breeze advantage out to 51-30 at half-time.

The Breeze began the second half with a 13-2 run, Mareta Davidson joining sister Penina (7 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals) in the Harbour lineup, as their lead stretched to 69-34 at the mid point of the third.

Tayla Dalton, on her way to 24 points, 7 assists and 4 steals, scored ten points in the period to give the Breeze an unassailable 83-40 three-quarter time lead.

Tini added seven points to her tally in the fourth and Diakhaby moved into double-double territory (18 points and 14 rebounds) as the Breeze completed a dominating performance.

After finishing the regular season with a 3-4 record the Breeze will carry sixth seeding into the WBC play-offs in Dunedin next week (July 5-7).
