Good week for Harbour players overseas.
It’s not only been a good week for our Platinum Homes Harbour Breeze winning the Sal’s NBL 18IN18 championship last Sunday but it’s also good to report successes for former players now overseas.
Penina Davidson is playing for Melbourne Boomers in the Australian National Basketball League (WNBL). The Boomers are into next week’s semi-finals with two games to play in the regular season.
In the recent encounter with Bendigo Spirit Penina bagged 15 points (5/9FG, 5/6FT) and 7 rebounds for the 8-3 Boomers that also boast four other Tall Ferns in their lineup - Stella Beck, Toni Farnworth, Kalani Purcell and Ash Karaitiana.
Tessa Talo-Tomokino (pictured) has had to wait awhile to make her NCAA debut for Northeastern State University having redshirted the 2019-20 campaign.
Tessa has started all five games for Northeastern averaging 20 minutes per game. Her best showing was against Emporia State when she dished a game high 7 assists to accompany 7 points (3/5FG) and 5 rebounds.
Having missed three games due to injury 2018 Tall Fern Akiene Tera-Reed made a welcome return for Virginia Commonwealth University but couldn’t prevent the Rams going down 81-76 to Old Dominion University. Reed totaled 15 points (4/11FG) and 4 rebounds in just her second outing of the season.
A couple of days later Tera top scored with 13 points (6/11FG) as VCU lost a low scoring encounter to East Carolina University 58-55.
St Mary’s College, California dropped a third straight game going down 62-53 against Arizona State. Tayla Dalton was 2 from 3 from the field for her 4 points for St Mary’s.
In contrast St Mary’s men (5-1) are going well. The Gaels won 73-50 win against Nicholls State University with Dan Fotu posting 10 points and 5 rebounds.
Dan posted similar numbers in the Gaels most recent victory against University of Texas at El Paso (73-61). He finished with 9 points, 4 rebounds and a couple of blocks.
Kruz Perrott-Hunt made his third start for South Dakota (0-3) tallying 8 points and 4 rebounds in 33 minutes.
Former Rosmini College teammate Reihana Maxwell-Topia’s first taste of college basketball was a double-overtime loss. Playing for St Francis, Illinois, the Fighting Saints went down 77-71 to Bellevue University with RM-T scoring 5 points on debut.
He followed that with an enterprising stats line of 8 points, 5 rebounds plus one each in assists, steals and blocks in a 77-68 victory over East-West University.
