Harbour players shine in the NBL and abroad

Once again Harbour reps, past and present, were to the fore in the latest round of the Sal’s National Basketball League.

The Auckland Tuatara had a win and a loss over the past week - Chris McIntosh scoring a NBL career high 16 points in the 106-91 defeat of the Wellington Saints in the capital last Monday.

In the same game Charlie Dalton scored his first NBL basket with Harbour U19 teammate Tom Beattie dropping a season best 7 points.

The Tuatara didn’t fare quite so well two days later going down 75-74 to the Bay Hawks at Eventfinda Stadium on Wednesday night.

Rob Loe tallied 7 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks.

Overall this season Rob is second in the rebounding category with 12 per outing and also 7th on the assists list with 4.8 dimes per game.

Former Westlake Boys Head Boy Jarrod Kenny returned to the Hawks lineup to add his considerable experience following his season in the Australian NBL with Cairns Taipans.

Unfortunately, Jack Salt’s terrible run of bad luck with injuries and illness has continued, he has headed back to Virginia University for recuperation with his return to the court, for the Hawks, undetermined.

Brayden Inger scored 20 points but couldn’t prevent the Southland Sharks going down 97-86 to the Taranaki Airs. Jaylen Gerrand scored 3 points for the Sharkies while Scott Telfer contributed 5 points to the Airs victory.

Denhym Brooke scored 10 points in a losing cause as the Franklin Bulls were defeated 83-66 by the Otago Nuggets.

The former Rangitoto College forward will be one of a plethora of former Harbour guys in action when the Bulls visit Eventfinda Stadium on Saturday for the local derby encounter with the Tuatara.

Denhym will be joined by Jett Thompson and Christian Martin, with a possibility Corey Webster will be debuting for the Bulls.

Auckland Tuatara may well have a high profile debutant as well. Dan Fotu could be making the first pro appearance since graduating from St Mary’s College, California. Definitely suiting up will be Reuben Fitzgerald and the previously mentioned Loe, McIntosh, Beattie and Dalton.

In Australia Penina Davidson is averaging 18.2 points and 11.6 rebounds for Cairns Dolphins. The Dolphins (4-1) are currently fourth on the NBL 1 North ladder.

Further north Isaac Fotu and his club Tochigi Brex are into the Japanese League Grand Final series having won both their quarter-final and semi-final series 2-0.

Isaac has been outstanding, during an arduous campaign of 60 games, averaging 13.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game – second highest for Brex in both categories.
