Weekly Wrap - Excellent performances at home and abroad
Congratulations to Tayla Dalton and Ash Kelman-Poto who both made their Tall Ferns debut in the 83-64 loss to European champions Serbia in Belgrade at the weekend.
Tayla scored 7 points and Ash 4 points while Penina Davidson led the rebounding count adding 9 points to 8 rebounds in the first of three games against the world # ranked team.
Akiene-Tera Reed, having missed the opening game, posted 8 points and 7 rebounds in game two in which Serbia prevailed 80-65.
In addition to playing Serbia the Tall Ferns have fixtures against Turkey and Poland in preparation for the FIBA Asia Cup that takes place in Sydney at the end of June.
Ten New Zealand athletes were named to attend the 13th Basketball Without Borders Asia Camp in Abu Dhabi from June 2-5. The BWB Asia Camp assembled 80 top high school aged athletes and three were Harbour representatives – Julius Halaifonua, Amy Pateman and Rebecca Moors.
All three impressed with Amy (pictured third from right) and Rebecca (pictured fifth from right) named to the Girl’s All-Star team and Julius selected to the Boy’s All-Star team.
It’s been a good week for Tom Beattie. Named to the Tournament Team after helping Harbour secure the U19 National title he has become the latest Harbour athlete to secure an NCAA Division I basketball scholarship after committing to play at the University of Hawaii where he will follow in the footsteps of Isaac Fotu.
It was an outstanding performance by the Harbour Boy’s in claiming the national title with Tautoko Wynyard and Charlie Dalton also named to the Tournament Team – Charlie the Tournament MVP.The Harbour Girl’s finished 5th with Bailey Flavell named to the Tournament Team.

Tai Webster has signed for the Otago Nuggets for the remainder of the 2023 season and in breaking news brother Corey has joined the Canterbury Rams.
Rob Loe continues to post double-doubles at will with 31 points and 11 rebounds as Auckland Tuatara eventually saw off the challenge of the Manawatu Jets winning 96-82.
Charlie Dalton flew back from U19 Nationals to put together a 14-point and 6 rebound performance for the Tuatara.
One of the games of the regular season will take place at Eventfinda Stadium next Sunday afternoon when the Tuatara take on the Franklin Bulls in the Auckland derby. Both teams, sitting inside the top four on the ladder, are in good form – it’s a game local fans should get along to.
The Bulls confirmed fourth spot after downing Manawatu Jets 97-82 with Dan Fotu compiling a 24 points and 10 rebounds double-double. Matt Freeman was also in double figures with 11 points.
Also in very good form was Scott Telfer who equalled his career high with 17 points for Taranaki Airs who disappointingly went down 111-92 against the Wellington Saints in New Plymouth.
Brayden Inger scored 11 points as Southland Sharks kept their play-off hopes alive with a 116-79 demolition of Otago Nuggets in the ‘Battle of the South’
Down in Christchurch Tautoko Wynyard made his NBL debut for the Canterbury Rams in their 112-97 win over the Hawkes Bay Hawks. Denhym Brooke had 7 points and 6 rebounds for the Hawks.
In Germany Sam Waardenburg and his Ludwigsburg club have been beaten at the semi-final stage of the Bundesliga play-offs. In the best of five game series Ludwigsburg were defeated 3-0 by top seed Bonn who have former Breaker Finn Delany in their lineup.
Sam scored 8 points in game three as Ludwigsburg went down 82-73.
