Weekly Wrap - Thanksgiving action

A number of Harbour athletes put in strong performances over the busy Thanksgiving period in American college hoops.

NCAA Division I

Scoring 10 points Tayla Dalton brought up 700 career points for St Mary’s College although the Gaels were beaten 74-60 on their home court by St Thomas.

Tayla follows in the footsteps of fellow former Harbour standout Emme Shearer in passing the 700+ career points mark with the pair sitting second and third behind Charlisse Leger-Walker for NCAA Division I career points tallied amongst active New Zealand players.

Over the weekend Emme equaled her career high in scoring 21 points (7/11FG, 2/2 3PG) although Portland were pipped at the buzzer by Northern Arizona going down 66-65.

NCAA Division II

Sean Murphy came up with his first collegiate career double-double as the University of Nebraska-Kearney pipped Western Colorado 76-75 in an NCAA Division II match-up. Sean pulled down 11 rebounds to accompany 15 points.

Marvin Williams-Dunn made three from three from beyond the arc in his 11 points (to go with 4 assists) as Ouachita Baptist overpowered John Melvin University 115-54.

Kiani Saxon was also in double figures as Missouri Western State edged William Jewell 84-82, Kiani scoring a dozen points making 5 from 6 from the field.

Charlie Dalton scored 10 points in a losing cause as Concordia Irvine were beaten 71-56 by California State University Dominquez Hills.

Parehuia Delamere made all three of her 3-point shots as she tallied 10 points for Young Harris College in their 59-49 victory over Toccoa Falls.

Jess Moors snared a game high 4 steals to accompany 6 points as Nova Southeastern won 71-63 against Daemen.

NAIA

Rashaan Smith was close to a double-double despite Oklahoma Wesleyan falling 68-58 to Texas A&M Texarkana in NAIA play. Rashaan finished with a game high 11 rebounds to go with 8 points.

Junior College

Zaaliyah Kailahi-Fulu posted her first double-double of the season to help Chipola College to a 99-48 win against South Georgia Tech. Zaaliyah pulled down a dozen boards to go with 16 points.

Also in double-double territory was Qaizden Stephano and it was a monster effort too. Completing her third double-double of the season Qaizden hoovered up 16 rebounds to go with 18 points as Gillette College clipped Trinidad State 90-81.

In Men’s Junior College play Boston Caldwell top scored for Central Maine College with 19 points but the Mustangs were pipped 83-81 by Maine Fort Kent.
