Weekly Wrap – Webster and Loe shine again

Ahead of the local derby between the Auckland Tuatara and Franklin Bulls on Wednesday night the Harbour connection of Rob Loe and Corey Webster put on quite a show.

Corey Webster and Rob Loe scored 23 points apiece as the Auckland Tuatara blitzed the Southland Sharks 94-54 at Eventfinda Stadium on Friday night. Corey added 7 assists and 4 steals while Rob secured 14 steals.

The next opportunity to see the Tuatara is this Wednesday, April 24th when the Tuatara will face the Franklin Bulls at Eventfinda Stadium in the first Auckland derby fixture of 2024.

The Rapid League game begins at 6.30pm with the NBL encounter commencing at 7.30pm.

It’s also been announced in the last week that Rob has signed a one year deal with Melbourne United in the Australian NBL. Rob played 8 games for United, as an injury replacement, in the 2023-24 season. 

Dan Fotu continued his good form with 14 points as Nelson Giants protected their home court with a 92-77 win against the Manawatu Jets.

Three former Harbour players were in double figures as Tauranga Whai proved too good for Southland Sharks winning 88-73. Jett Thompson scored 14 points and secured 3 steals, Kruz Perrott-Hunt tallied 13 points while Denhym Brooke, playing his first game of the season scored 12.

Scott Telfer scored 8 points for the Sharks.

Oversees Professional Players

In Australian NBL1 action:

Akiene-Tera Reed scored 13 points as Keilor Thunder had a massive 103-53 win against Ash Udiseke and the Casey Cavaliers.

Playing two games over the weekend the Thunder also proved too good for Launceston winning 94-60 with Tera scoring 10 points in that one. The Thunder now have six wins from six outings.

In NBL1 West Olivia Berry scored 23 points and Ella Fotu 13 as Kalamunda Eastern Suns went down 98-87 in overtime to Warwick Senators.

Ella’s brother Isaac Fotu scored 13 points on 6 from 8 shooting as Tochigi Brex beat Sendai 89ers 81-75.

Brex now have an overall record of 47-9, the best record in the Japanese League as they head the Eastern Conference. 

James Moors made 13 points as Leeuwarden went down 86-99 to Kortrijk in Dutch League play. In the last ten games James has scored in double figures on each occasion and has averaged 14.7ppg.

Matt Freeman scored 9 points as Craiova beat Laguna 86-67 to win their Rumanian League play-off series 3-0.
