All you need is some passion for the game...
AFL Victoria is still looking for players for Youth Girls teams for season 2011. It doesn't matter if you've never played before, as most girls who join the competition have not done so. All you need is some passion for the game and a desire to have a go at the best sport around. Games are played in proper competition, just like the boys.
Did you know that by 2020, the AFL will set up an AFL competition for women? Girls who play in the Youth Girls competition could find themselves running out on the field playing for their favourite team in the not too distant future.
With eight competitions now confirmed, there will be sixty-one teams for girls aged 13-18 to play for in Victoria in 2011. Competitions will be based in Melbourne's westerns, the Northern Football League, the Yarra Junior Football League, and at the South East Juniors. Country competitions will run in Geelong and as part of the Bendigo Junior Football League and Ballarat Football League. AFL Victoria will establish a new competition in Warrnambool in 2011 as well.
Any girls interested in playing should email AFL Victoria's Female Football Development Manager, Chyloe Kurdas - chyloe.kurdas@aflvic.com.au - or call 03 8341 6042.
