Fresh change for the Magpies

THE Port Macquarie Magpies Australian Rules Football Club has a new-look engine room and is determined to sweep the organisation into a bold era of success.

Speaking after the recent annual general meeting, newly-appointed general manager of the Settlers Inn Magpies Gordon Wiegold said the team was dedicated to providing the Mid-North Coast with a family-oriented senior club that welcomes all comers from Kempsey to Taree.

“I think the timing is right for this group to come together, put their energies into making AFL as strong and as enjoyable as possible on the Mid-North Coast, and helping to spread the workload at the club that has fallen on too few for a little while now,” Wiegold said.

The club has also voted in an executive that consists of Paul Sheldon (president), Michael Tritton (vice president), Jenelle Nosworthy (secretary) and Craig Carroll (treasurer).

“We have already met twice and the idea’s chest is overflowing,” Wiegold said.

“It will be a matter of harnessing all the good ones, getting as much community and sponsorship support as possible and providing the best possible platform for players and supporters to enjoy on and off-field success.

“I think you’ll see a club committed to working with the juniors in this area and one that will be a proud sporting and community citizen at all times.

“Our first duty is to get the coaching structures in place and we are now calling for anyone interested in overseeing firsts, seconds or under 18s to lodge their interest quickly."
