The Heat did not get off to the best of starts, losing their three matches on Day 1 of the Under 18 State Trials. The Rebels look the team to beat, from the Stingrays and Cats, judging by early form.

They were slow out of the blocks against the Stingrays before falling just short against the Sydney-based Starz outfit. In their final game of the night, they fell away against the other Riverina side; the Rebels. Jack Gillingham had good moments during the first night, as did Michael Corcoran (Inverell Saints) who was particularly impressive in the one-percenters.
