The Coffs Swans almost pulled off the upset of the season only for the Kangaroos to get out of jail at the Coffs Coast Leisure Park.

The Swans held a four-goal lead heading into the final change before falling away drastically in the last quarter for the second time in a fortnight.

This time, the Kangaroos piled on nine goals in a much more accurate showing than the preceding three quarters.

The red and whites could take great heart from their effort as they did more than hold their own against their much-fancied rivals.

They had contributors across every line with Evan Duryea starring across the ground with five goals. Peter Robinson frustrated the Kangaroos down back in a key defensive post, while Ben Miller added surety in the middle and ruck contests.

Duryea’s contribution was cancelled out by Darren Funston who again led the way for his struggling side in an impressive performance across half-forward in the second half.

Sawtell continued their flawless record with a twenty goal victory over Port Macquarie at Richardson Park.

In their last home game of the season, the Saints were never headed, creating opportunities while keeping the Magpies well within the grasps for the entire contest.

Dave Meyers kicked five goals before half-time stealing the limelight from leading goalkicker, Ben Hooke.

Todd and Luke Matthews had their own way in the wet conditions against a disappointing Magpies outfit trying to keep their aspirations of second place alive.

The avalanche of goals slowed to an extent after half-time, but inevitably, Port could not use the momentum gained from inflicting the Saints first club loss of the season in the Under 18s to their advantage.

Nambucca kept their finals chances alive with a start-to-finish victory over a gallant Grafton at Macksville Park.

The Lions with their season on the line showed glimpses of their best in front of their home fans, as they took a small lead into half-time.

Jimmy Angel excelled for the hosts playing a loose role in defence. He was well supported by the midfield division of Jed Ellis-Cluff and Monty Schmidt who worked their way into the contest with some unselfish play in the second-half.

The Tigers were unable to make the most of their opportunities after the main break. The switch of Justin Darby into the ruck was a smart move, however, they were unable to kick a winning score on a dry track.

The win sets the Lions up for a mini elimination final against the Coffs Swans at Fitzroy Oval, with the victor set to face Port Macquarie a week later at the BCU International Stadium.
