Swans legends steal the show

Evan Duryea may have won the Swans Best & Fairest, however, it was a moving presentation to two of the Swans Seniors stalwarts that stole the show at the club's annual Presentation Night.

In particular, Tony Waterfall, the Swans legend, was emotional in announcing his retirement as a coach and player at the club. Waterfall received a standing ovation at the end of his speech, and this was richly deserved, as he retired to focus on his end-of-year wedding and future plans to start a family.

Waterfall has a strong family link with the Swans having played for the last 14 years, being captain for a 10 year period and gaining Swans life membership in 2001.

An outstanding achievement award went to Scott Morgan who notched up his tenth season with the club. Even more remarkable is the fact he has played every game over that ten year period- a total of 158 consecutive games.

The night itself was entertaining, with League Best & Fairest, Shane Adams and Sam Turner kicking off the night's precedings by being the joint winners of the Under 18 Best & Fairest on 18 votes. Dave Kennedy rounded out the places on 13 votes.

A slight surprise was presented in the Reserves vote count. League Best & Fairest in this grade, Jason Sincock (30 votes) finished runner-up to Jason Phillips (34 votes), who also received the award for the Best Finals Player. Phillips thoroughly deserved the award for the skill he shows on a weekly basis. Sam Turner capped off his good performance in the Under 18s to finish third on 24 votes.

Evan Duryea capped off his runner-up finish in the Senior League vote count to easily win the club's Best Player on 112 votes. Young star, Hamish Pearce had a stellar season to be runner-up on 84 votes, with Rob Eddy, Peter Chadwick and Tristan Snow tied for third on 66 votes.

Bevan Young was announced clubman of the year, whilst Club Secretary, Lynn Gow received the Clubwoman of the Year honour.

Shane McGrath, Dave Coleman and Wade Hickey were also honoured for playing 100 games for the club.
